-Generally speaking try to make temperature changes gradually so piece can adjust, avoid freezing as moisture will expand any miniscule crack it can find. Avoid sudden unexpected contacts with hard surfaces (drops, bumps) pottery is tough but still breakable. Special care should be taken to protect handles and edges as these points are more vulnerable to chipping and breaking. -All pottery is fired to cone 6 and vitrified which means it will hold water unless specifically designed not to or damaged in some way -I use glazes which are lead free from MN Clay Company, MPLS MN -Pottery can be used in the microwave unless it has metallic lusters (gold or mother of pearl accents) I do not use lusters on coffee cups -Dishwasher safe but keep them protected from being bumped by other items during the cycle -Oven use...I’ve tested several casseroles by boiling water in the oven at 350 degrees and then immersing them in ice water or pouring ice water into them with no cracks appearing. I’m sure you’ll be kinder.
FOUNTAIN CARE AND USE -Treat fountains like a burning candle—beautiful but not to be left unattended. I ensure fountains don’t leak prior to sale but future leaks are always a possibility. Leaks can be fixed by me or you with a tube of silicone sealer. Please protect valuable surfaces under or around your fountain from leaks or splashing. -Do not run pumps dry as this burns out the motor. I use high quality submergible aquarium pumps that will literally last forever with care. Should you experience problems please contact me. Sometimes when first turned on there is a pocket of air trapped just inside the pump - this can be released by tapping/moving the pump slightly. -The amount of noise your fountain makes can be increased by sliding the lever on the pump so more water is circulated and by moving the rocks around so the water is forced to change direction more as it flows over them. Both these actions cause increased splashing so you’ll have to experiment to find a balance. Start with clean materials (rocks) and from time to time rinse them off and wipe accumulated slime from bowl of fountain CLEANING FOUNTAINS
-remove cover (not shown) the rest of fountain is sealed with epoxy Using a paperclip or other similar tool catch an edge of impellor and pull straight out. Take care not to break the white ceramic shaft which will stay attached to the pump inside cavity Wipe out any slime and replace parts. I’ve tried to leave enough chord to make cleaning possible - don’t pull to much or seal between chord and fountain will leak |
